Woman stabbed to death in Dundalk named as Lithuanian national Ingrida Maciokaite

She was just 31 years old.

The young woman stabbed to death in Dundalk on Tuesday afternoon has been named as Ingrida Maciokaite.Ingrida, 31, originally from Lithuania, was killed in a brutal attack at around 2.45pm at the Bridgewater Mews apartment complex on Linenhall Street in the town.A source said: “It is believed an argument broke out and the woman suffered serious stab wounds.

“Medics and gardai rushed to the scene but they couldn’t save her.”A man, in his 40s and also from Lithuania, was arrested shortly afterwards and is being questioned by detectives in Dundalk.Gardai launched an investigation and sealed off the apartment block at Linen Hall Street in the town.

It is believed the victim and the man have both been living in the general Dundalk area for sometime.Cllr Liam Reilly said he was shocked to hear of the incident.

He added: “I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family of the dead woman.”A Garda spokesman said the man was arrested on suspicion of assault and following a postmortem the investigation may be upgraded.

A Garda statement added: “The scene is preserved for a technical and forensic examination and an incident room has been established. The office of the State Pathologist and Coroner have been notified.“A male in his 40s has been arrested in connection with this investigation and is currently detained at Dundalk Garda station.

“Investigations are continuing.”
