Weather will be volatile in Latvia this week – a reasonable amount of thaw along with chilly air is expected. Latvia’s State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre predicts strong wind and plenty of precipitation.
Air temperature at night will be low (around -3° C… -8° C) at the beginning of the week. On the night to Wednesday, 14 January, air temperature is expected to drop to -11° C. Daytime air temperature will stay within 0° C… +2° C.
Under influence from an active cyclone it will snow in Latvia. The overall layer of snow is expected to increase. Wet snow is expected along the coast. Wind speed will stay around 16-21 m/sec along the coast (23 m/sec on Tuesday). Because of the wind, 5 m tall waves are also expected.
High atmospheric pressure is expected to form above Latvia on Wednesday, causing precipitation to back away. However, on Thursday a new precipitation zone will reach the country from the south. Air temperature will reach +2° C… +5° C because of that.
Wind will gradually draw in from the west and north-west at the end of the week. The sky will clear more often, causing air temperature to drop to -5° C… -10° C at night and -3° C… +3° C during the day.
