Ukrainian security authorities have stated that a massive cyberattack has been thwarted and claimed Russia was to blame for the alleged digital assault.
American news agency AP reports that on Tuesday, December 5, the Security Service of Ukraine made an announcement that hackers used malicious accounting documents to target the information technology systems of the country’s judiciary.
The body characterised the alleged hacking as «massive», but gave little detail about the extent, timing, nature or severity of the hacks. Russia did not immediately comment on the claim to AP.
Ukraine has suffered a number of extraordinarily damaging cyberattacks since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and Russian-backed forces overran eastern Ukraine, leading to years of fighting.
