“A state is created by its people, therefore we are celebrating the input of all of us to the prosperity of Lithuania on Coronation of King Mindaugas – State Day. No state or democracy has a potential nor freedom is lasting if its citizens are passive and indifferent, so let us honourably continue the work started by Mindaugas,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis says ahead of attending the State Flag Hoisting Ceremony on Coronation of King Mindaugas – State Day, July 6, in Simonas Daukantas Square in Vilnius, and also other events.
At noon on July 6 the Lithuanian Armed Forces Honour Guard Company formed by soldiers representing the Land Force, Navy and the Air Force under the watch of a guard of soldiers in the 14th c. weaponry and uniform, to the tunes of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Band for the first time wearing reconstructed uniforms of the Infantry Guard Regiment of the Grand Duchess of Lithuania of the 18th c. NATO allies currently conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic States, troops of Portugal with F-16 fighter jets and troops of Spain with Eurofighter Typhoons, are expected to congratulate Lithuania on State Day with a flypast.
Other events include rounds shot from an ancient 18th c. cannon to honour King Mindaugas, state of Lithuania, and people of Lithuania, celebration of a Holly Mass, a concert by the Royal Netherlands Army Band dressed in historical 19th c. grenadier uniforms, a joint concert with the Lithuanian Armed Forces Band, etc.
Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces and soldiers will attend the events and invite everyone to join the already nine years old initiative “National Anthem Worldwide” to stop and sing Lithuania’s National Anthem wherever you are on July 6 at 2100hrs.
