Ten new cases of COVID-19 in Latvia

Ten new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on September 20, the total in Latvia since the start of the pandemic rising to 1,525 as a result.

No new deaths were recorded, with the fatality toll remaining on 36.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 1,933 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period. 

In total 295,242 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,248 patients have recovered from infection.

Twelve patients are in hospital, all of whom are described as having moderate symptoms of the disease.

SPKC added that three of the new cases were arrivals from Ukraine, five of the new patients had been in contact with another infected person or persons, while the remaining cases were still being investigated.

On September 19 the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 4.3 in Latvia, 20.1 in Lithuania and 27.0 in Estonia according to data from the  European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control  . Latvia’s rate is currently the lowest in the European Union and one of the lowest in the world.
