Five members of the Lithuanian parliament, Seimas, own assets in excess of one million euros, according to their declarations to the tax authorities. A vote to remove the Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, Viktoras Pranckietis, failed when only a few MPs showed up for it on Tuesday night. Eleven out of 141 lawmakers took part in a secret ballot and three voted in favour of dismissing Pranckietis, seven were against and one ballot paper was invalidated. Lithuanian ruling party proposes Economy Minister Sinkevicius for EU commissioner

The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union’s political group in the parliament has decided to propose Economy and Innovation Minister Virginijus Sinkevicius as the country’s candidate to be a member of the next European Commission.  “We had a vote today on a candidate for European commission. The group unanimously supports the candidature of Virginijus Sinkevicius,” Ramunas Karbauskis, the ruling party’s leader, told reporters on Thursday.
