Education Minister Ilga Šuplinska told Latvian Radio September 28 that with the COVID-19 situation deteriorating, schools might have to shift towards more remote learning.
As of Monday, COVID-19 infection cases have been found in 12 education institutions, of which seven are schools, three kindergartens and two tertiary education institutions. Two schools have had more than one case.
Minister Šuplinska indicated that schools might have to consider shifting from Education Ministry’s proposed model A to model B . This would mean older pupils would work partially remotely.
“Possibly more schools should think about model B, which means days or weeks of remote learning should definitely be introduced in bigger schools. I don’t mean just Rīga schools but all schools, and also to consider whether school events and contests should be part of the learning process,” said the Education Minister.
