Russia unveils bridge to Crimea, Ukraine condemns the move

Russia has opened a strategic bridge in the Kerch Strait of the Black Sea connecting its illegally annexed peninsula of Crimea and mainland Russia.

British news portal The Guardian reports that 19 km-long bridge is Moscow’s only direct road link to Crimea as since 2014, all car traffic passed over the Kerch strait by ferry or by passing through Ukraine Russia.

Russia plans that the bridge would carry millions of cars and rail travellers and millions of tons of cargo every year.

Ukrainian news agency Unian reports that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented in a statement: «The construction of the bridge, like any other actions of the Kremlin’s occupying authorities, in no way can change the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as an integral part of the territory of Ukraine in its internationally recognized border».
