Riga for the first time has been included in the annual list of the world’s best student cities drawn by British Quacquarelli Symonds company.
The rating QS Best Student Cities, published on the organization’s internet website, lists Riga the 110th among 120 cities. Lithuania’s capital Vilnius was listed the 95th, but no Estonian city has been included in the list.
The three best student cities are London, Tokyo and Melbourne.
The criteria for the list include ratings of universities, composition of students, attractiveness of the city, activity of employers and accessibility, as well as student assessment.
The authors of the list note that Riga boasts three leading universities, all of which are ranked in the the QS World University Rankings – Riga Technical University, Riga Stradins University, University of Latvia.
In the Best Student Cities ranking, Riga gains its highest score on the “student mix” indicator, a credit to the diversity of the city’s students and its inclusivity.
