On November 13-14 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is taking part in the Baltic-Northern Group Defence Ministers meeting in Oslo, Norway.
The Baltic-Northern Defence Ministers will discuss the recently wrapped up NATO military exercise Trident Juncture 2018, security of the North-Eastern region, challenges coming from Russia, European security initiatives, and cooperation in enhancing Eastern partners’ capacity in security area.
The Northern Group Defence Ministers’ meeting will focus on increasing military mobility and coordination of strategic communication. Under-Secretary-General for UN Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix will be an invited guest to the meeting that will also address the United Nations peace and security reform.
The Nordic-Baltic and the Northern Group Defence Ministers meetings are an efficient platform for defence cooperation that allows Lithuania to share its insights on defence and security agenda, evaluate partners’ perspective, and propose new initiatives to strengthen regional security.
After the meetings in Oslo, Minister R. Karoblis will take part in the Halifax International Security Forum on November 16-18.
Representatives from more than 90 countries will discuss economic stability, climate change, nuclear armament, cyber security, threats of terrorism and military actions in the context of present day security challenges.
Minister of National Defence R. Karoblis will focus on NATO themes and speak on increasing defence spending to 2 percent of GDP.
