First there was ‘the dress’ which sparked widespread confusion and debate.
Now people are baffled over the internet’s latest optical illusion – and they can’t tell if it’s supposed to be a crow or a cat.
Although birds and cats in theory don’t look very similar, the photo has been widely shared on social media and has people completely befuddled.
At first glance, the image appears to be a crow with a distinguishable beak but it’s actually a cat with its head tilted to the side with one eye closed.
Research director at Citizens for Ethics, Robert Maguire, shared the snap on Twitter, writing: “This picture of a crow is interesting because it’s actually a cat.”
Robert’s post had garnered more than 162,000 likes and 57,000 retweets, as well as over a thousand comments from people writing to express their confusion.
A Twitter user commented: “Lol I totally had to look at this a few times…”
Another person added: “Mind is boggled now.”
Even Jeremy Vine was fooled by the optical illusion, tweeting: “Help me with this.”
One person observed the optical illusion even managed to trick Google, as one person noticed the image is thought to be an ‘American crow’ if you reverse image search the pic.
Other people mocked those confused by the image, saying that it is obviously a cat.
One person wrote: “I saw a cat when I first looked at it”.
Another person posted a picture of their dog which looks nothing like the cat or crow, writing: “Picture of a cat is interesting because it’s actually a dog”.
