One more coronavirus fatality brings total to 32 in Latvia


Officials in Latvia said they had registered three new cases of COVID-19 on July 31, with the total number since the start of the pandemic rising to 1,231 on Friday.

One additional death has also been confirmed, the fatality toll now standing at 32.

The victim was aged 90 to 95 and had been in contact with a relative who had returned from abroad.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 1,473 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period.

In total 198,508 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,052 patients have recovered from infection.

SPKC also added that of the three new cases, one person had arrived from a country with infection rate above 25, one from a country with infection rate below 16, and one had been in contact with the arrival from a country with a rate below 16. The names of the countries in question were not given.

Four patients are in hospital, all described as having moderate symptoms of the disease.
