New Interior Minister appointed in Estonia

Following the surprise resignation Estonian Minister of the Interior Andres Anvelt, another social democrat Katri Raik has been appointed to the post.

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported on Monday, November 26, that Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid greeted Raik in the post on Monday to join the government after her oath of office before the Riigikogu.

Her predecessor Andres Anvelt, in office since 2016, stated last week he would step down from office due to serious health issues.

Katri Raik belongs to the Social Democratic Party (SDE) and until her appointment served as the rector of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences for eight years and has previously worked as a history and civic studies teacher.
