New COVID-19 restrictions in place in Latvia

Due to the spread of COVID-19, the Cabinet on October 9 agreed on new restrictions on assembly and additional limitations in a few municipalities.

The maximum number of people who can gather indoors is 500, and 1,000 outdoors. The number allowed so far was 1,000 people indoors and 3,000 in outdoor areas.

Ministers agreed to limit indoor events related to the movement and dancing. It is stipulated that organized events can only take place if there are fixed, personalized seats. Similar restrictions are also imposed on nightclubs, bars and similar entertainment sites. There is still a limit on working hours at catering sites until midnight.

Ministers also agreed to the number of people in non-formal adult education groups – between 50 and 30 people per group. Sports training and competitions must take place without spectators.

In these areas, prior to 6 November, in addition to the restrictions imposed in the country as a whole, the activities of amateur art and sports groups, and interest and vocational orientation education shall be prohibited.

The restrictions will come into force on Saturday, October 10,and are set until the end of 2020.
