Minister urges communication regarding airBaltic repatriation flights

Today’s repatriation flights to be carried out by airBaltic are at almost full capacity, and those who have decided not to fly are strongly urged to notify the airline ovia the airline’s  website , according to Transport Minister Tālis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) on March 16.

The minister stressed that it’s important to  notify the airline   so that another passenger can be given the opportunity to fly back to Rīga. Those who weren’t able to book one of the flights are invited to notify consular services as well as airBaltic, as there is the possibility of further flights in future.

“We can’t currently say when and from where those flights will be organized, but we’re gathering all the information. As soon as we see there are enough people ready to buy tickets and fly home, we’ll organize such flights,” said Linkaits.

He also said that airBaltic is currently in a stable financial position, but if the crisis is prolonged, that the national airline may require additional support.

As  previously reported  , Latvia will go into an effective national lockdown on Tuesday, March 17 when it closes its international borders to all organized passenger traffic on land, sea and air as part of anti-coronavirus measures announced by the government.
