On May 18 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis will meet with Minister of Defence of Moldova Eugeniu Sturza visiting Lithuania. At the meeting at the Ministry of National Defence bilateral defence cooperation and its prospects, progress of Moldovan defence reform and cooperation with NATO and the EU will be discussed, Ministers will exchange views on regional security.
During the visit on May 18-19 Minister of Defence of Moldova and his delegation will also visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliament, NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in Vilnius and the National Cyber Security Centre under the MoD, as well as attend Military and Public Unity Day in Alytus.
Lithuania and Moldova have been cooperating in defence area since 2004. Lithuania provides consultations to Moldova on defence reform, strategic communications, democratic control of armed forces, and other areas. Moldova’s representatives study English and at the staff officers course at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania on Lithuania’s funding, and since 2008 – at the Baltic Defence College too. Moldova’s military are also invited to the instructors course at the Division General S.Raštikis Lithuanian Armed Forces School and military medics courses in the Lithuanian Armed Forces units. Lithuania helps strengthening Moldova’s NCO system bilaterally and together with experts of NATO The Defence Education Enhancement Programme.
