May Day rally in Paris turns into riots, nearly 200 rioters arrested

French police have detained close to 200 rioters, who took part in the annual May Day protests in Paris, but resorted to vandalism.

British public broadcaster BBC reported that far-left anarchist groups, known as Black Blocs, hijacked a peaceful rally against President Emmanuel Macron’s public sector labour reforms and started riots that resulted in four people suffering light injuries.

French police stated that about 1,200 masked and hooded protesters attended the annual 1 May demonstration by labour unions. The protesters smashed shop windows along the route of the march, torched a McDonald’s near, various vehicles and a car dealership

French labour unions stated the number of peaceful protesters at the main demonstration on Tuesday in Paris was about 55,000. President Macron has announced he would move on with the implementation of his reform plan.
