A man who spotted a sleepy cat in a Tesco supermarket shared a snap of the fluffy intruder online.
Twitter user @YerDaPuntsGear seems to have been a visitor to the area, as it turns out the moggie is a famous one and he was unaware of the animal’s stardom.
The cat is Mango, who’s well-known in Devon for spending a lot of time at Tiverton Tesco. He has quite the back story.
In 2015, Mango was evicted by supermarket staff over ‘health and safety’ fears – despite having snuffled around the rural West Country store for the best part of four years.
The cat soon returned. He’s well loved in the area, and his dedicated Facebook group has nearly 20,000 followers. Tesco couldn’t impose such a ban.
Last year, fears over Mango’s health were sparked after the cat went missing. Thankfully, he was found. And yesterday, he found national fame once more thanks to John’s tweet.
John appears to hail from Scotland, so could well have been holidaying in Devon when he encountered the cat.
Local Steve Littlewood was happy to see the moggie in Tesco yesterday. Steve said the guest is always there when he visits with his family.
“He’s such a character, the locals and visitors always stop and say hello, and he laps up all of the attention,” Steve told Mirror Online.
“These’s also another cat there that looks like him, which I have christened NotMango.”
Steve popped over to Tesco today. Mango was asleep on a barbecue. It wasn’t alight.
