The woman, aged in her 20s, was taken to a sexual assault treatment unit following the alleged attack in Dublin, Ireland.
Police are investigating after a woman was allegedly raped by a major Irish sports star in a city centre attack.
The woman, aged in her 20s, is believed to have been out socialising in Dublin, Ireland, in the early hours of yesterday.
She is then understood to have headed to a hotel, where an attack is alleged to have taken place between midnight and 2am.
The woman later went to a south Dublin garda station and reported the alleged incident, the Irish Mirror reports.
It is understood she claimed to have bruising and that she was struck by the sportsman during the incident.
The star maintains his innocence.
A garda spokesperson said police are investigating an alleged sexual assault and that no arrests have been made.
The spokesperson said: “Gardaí at Pearse Street, Dublin 2 are investigating an alleged sexual assault on a female which occurred in Dublin 2 in the early hours of this morning, Monday December 10th 2018.
“No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.”
Senior security sources told the Daily Mail that the woman “presented to her local Garda station” yesterday morning to report a rape.
They said: “She had been socialising in the city centre on Sunday evening. She returned to a city centre hotel where she alleges the rape by a well-known sports star took place.”
The woman was taken to Rotunda Hospital’s Sexual Assault Treatment Unit following the alleged attack.
The case has been transferred to Pearse Street Garda Station as the incident is alleged to have taken place in the city centre.
Investigations are ongoing.
