Lithuanian swimmer Meilutyte gets disqualified by FINA for two years

Lithuania’s retired swimming start Ruta Meilutyte has been disqualified by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) for two years for the violation of the doping rules.

The Lithuanian athlete breached the World Anti-Doping Code’s articles under which doping control officers failed to find her in the stated location three times within a period of 12 months.

Under World Anti-Doping Code and Lithuania’s anti-doping rules, athletes are required to provide exact information on their location and comply with the requirements applicable to their location. Such information must be submitted to the Anti-Doping Administration & Management System (ADAMS).

Doping control officers failed to find Meilutyte at a designated address within one hour on April 22 and August 19, 2018 and on March 28 this year.

At the age of 15, Meilutyte won a gold medal at the London Olympics. She has won 20 golden medals, 10 silver and one bronze medal at major international competitions.
