Lithuania and its President Dalia Grybauskaitė will host the 2018 summit of the forum of Women Political Leaders, which is to take place in Vilnius from June 6 to 8.
According to the forum’s web site, the moto of the high-level meeting will be: «It’s about time! 100 reasons to act!». It includes a reference to Lithuania celebrating this year the 100th anniversary since the Republic of Lithuania was established in 1918.
The forum presents awards to current and former high-ranking women officials and this year, among the laureates there will the former President of Latvia, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, and the former Prime Minister of Latvia, Laimdota Straujuma.
Grybauskaitė is expected to give a keynote speech and other speakers at the event will be António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, former U.S. state secretary Hillary Clinton, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and many other current and former women and men political leaders.
The forum is said to be a special opportunity to take part in dialogues that reflect the influence of female decision-makers in today’s world. In cooperation with international institutions such as the European Institute of Gender Equality, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations, and others, the WPL Summit 2018 programme will include a selection of speakers and interactive discussions.
