On 13 December, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Australia Gediminas Varvuolis opened the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Darwin. Egle Garrick, an active member of the Lithuanian World Community, was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in the Northern Territory.
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by members of the Lithuanian community, academic institutions and consular corps.
On his first visit to the Northern Territory, Ambassador G. Varvuolis met with the Mayor of Darwin Kon Vatskalis and the Administrator of the Northern Territory Vicki O’Halloran AO to discuss future cooperation in the field of science, culture and higher education. Ambassador G. Varvuollis also gave an interview to the local media.
Honorary Consulates of Lithuania also operate in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
