Lithuania and Malta share common interests

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca of Malta. The Presidents discussed key matters of EU agenda as well as experience of Lithuania and Malta in strengthening women’s rights and social security.

Lithuania and Malta are close partners in the European Union and share many common interests. In the run-up to the negotiations on the new multiannual EU budget, both countries aim to preserve adequate funding for EU cohesion and agricultural policy. Better funding for border protection is paramount for Lithuania and Malta that are situated at the external borders of the EU.

The President of Malta is a member of the Council of Women World Leaders chaired by Dalia Grybauskaitė. Therefore, the Presidents discussed Council’s activities, the protection of women’s rights and enhancing social security. Both Presidents support different initiatives that help fighting domestic violence and social disparities. The campaign “For A Safe Lithuania”, launched by Dalia Grybauskaitė, is active in Lithuania. It has gathered society to address violence against women as well as enhance assistance to children and families.
