Newly elected President Egils Levits will go to Estonia on his first foreign visit, which will be followed by a visit to Lithuania.
In an interview on Latvian Television this morning, Levits said that Latvian presidents usually choose to visit Estonia on their first foreign visit, which is followed by a visit to Lithuania.
Levits emphasized that Latvians and Estonians lived together for several hundred years in the past, and that he personally knows the current Estonian president, as both used to work together in Luxembourg. ”My meeting with the Estonian president will be a meeting with an old acquaintance,” he said.
Levits also admitted that he does not personally know the newly elected Lithuanian president, but that he is eager to meet with him.
