Latvian basketball player Kristers Zeidaks died in a car crash in the United State on Saturday, according NBC information reported LETA/BNS.
Zeidaks, 28, lost his life on Saturday morning in Naples, Florida, when his 2004 Chevy Silverado ran off the road and crashed into a tree.
The vehicle, driven by Zeidaks, first ignored a stop sign and then hit a fence and a tree, police informed.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.
Police has reportedly informed Zeidaks’ family about his death.
It is not yet clear whether Zeidaks had been drinking alcohol prior to the accident.
After studies in the US, Zeidaks returned to Latvia in the 2013/2014 season when he played for Turiba business university. Later he continued his career in the Ventspils basketball club for a while.
In the 2014-2015 season he joined Estonia’s Rapla TYCO where he was named the most useful player of the Baltic Basketball League in October.
Later, however, he earned a two-year suspension from professional sports for using banned substances. In recent years Zeidaks lived in the US.
Kristers Zeidaks’ father is well-known basketball player Aigars Zeidaks.
