IT sector makes significant contribution to Latvian economy – Karins

Information technology is a major contributor to Latvia’s economy, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said at an annual conference of the Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) on Thursday.

He emphasized that information technology and the digital sector are playing an increasingly important role in the global economy.

“Modern technologies are becoming comprehensive, creating new challenges and opportunities. The Latvian economy is no exception – the field of information technologies makes a significant contribution to our economy. Export data of the industry show that we are the best in the Baltics,” Karins said.

He added that Latvia has technologies, entrepreneurs and creative ideas that, if applied, can make Latvia the best not only in the region but also in the world. “Knowledge, skilled professionals and the digital skills of the public is also essential to achieve this goal,” he stressed.

Karins also noted that lifelong learning and education have become a necessity in the era of modern technology.

The LIKTA conference is the most important event in the field of information and communication technologies in Latvia. This year’s conference focuses on education.
