Google search engine, and social networks Facebook and Twitter, do not fulfil their previously made promises to combat fake news, as stated in European Commission’s announcement.
Opposite to the made agreement, Facebook has yet to provide results of an investigation of misleading advertisements.
Google representatives have failed to explain what has been done to prevent disinformation. Twitter has not provided results in the subject regarding advertisement publishing control.
Resources have not presented any progress even though European Parliament elections draw near, EC notes.
In autumn 2018, European Union coordinated with the three aforementioned companies voluntary rules of procedures to oppose fake news.
The agreement provides for marking of political advertisements, as well as combating bots for spreading fake news.
