Estonian President sees no return from e-governance

Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has discussed with Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, the Baltic country’s experience in providing public e-services to the population.

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports that Kaljulaid had the meeting while on a working visit to Washington, the U.S., last weekend, during which the Estonian head of state noted that the development of the e-state and a digital society in Estonia have always been directed by the people, and the state must only ensure the security of public online services.

«And once you start, there is no going back from a digital society,» argued Kaljulaid.

During the visit to the U.S., the Estonian President also took part in conference held by the World Bank and World Health Organization, where she outlined Estonia’s progress with its universal health insurance.
