The former Prime Minister of Estonia, Mart Laar, will continue to chair the Bank of Estonia’s Supervisory Board after members of the parliament backed his reappointment for a second term.
On Tuesday, May 29, the Estonian public broadcaster Riigikogu voted with 44 votes 31 supporting his candidacy.
The current mandate to Laar the head of the supervisory board of Estonia’s central bank would end on June 12, therefore Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid proposed to the Riigikogu to reappoint Laar to the post from June 13.
«With his comprehensive knowledge and management experience, two-time Prime Minister Mart Laar is an ideal candidate for the role of supervisory board chairperson for the Bank of Estonia. Over the past five years, he has proven his suitability for the position,» Kaljulaid reasoned back in April.
