Mr. Rokas Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications, and Mr. Andrzej Adamczyk, Polish Minister of Infrastructure, today in Vilnius discussed the issues relevant for both countries: development and financing of strategic transport projects uniting Lithuania and Poland, and usage of logistic potential by attracting cargoes from Asia, as well as other issues, says press center of Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“We will be able to develop the key infrastructural projects – “RailBaltica”, “Via Baltica”, “Via Carpatia” – only through close cooperation. These projects will have major impact not only on Lithuania but they will change substantially the passenger transport system between the Baltic States, Poland and other EU Member States. Moreover, they will open new possibilities to carry the goods – this reason alone makes the Polish and Lithuanian cooperation important not only for us, but for entire Europe”, – said Minister R. Masiulis.
The cooperation possibilities of Lithuania and Poland as transit countries were discussed in more detail during the meeting. Their aim is to attract bigger flows of goods coming from Asia to Europe and vice versa. When the Minister R. Masiulis introduced carriage possibilities of goods of our country, he stressed the aim to organize carriage of Chinese goods across the Republic of Lithuania by creating the necessary chain of logistic, warehousing and transport.
The meeting was used to discuss the international cooperation possibilities in data exchange. In the ministers’ opinion, the interaction and data exchange are an important step towards integration with similar EU systems and towards the plan to grant the status of smart road to the whole route of highways “Via Baltica”, and “Via Carpatia” in the future with the help of installation of smart technologies.
The ministers stressed that it is important to agree about the new rules of the EU road transport market in the approaching Council of the EU Ministers of Transport and they agreed to put joint efforts in order to reduce administrative burden of the carriers with the help of these rules and to increase the performance transparency of the companies.
