Lithuania confirmed 172 new coronavirus cases, the National Public Health Centre (NVSC) reported on Friday morning. It is the biggest daily increase since the start of the pandemic. One person died of Covid-19 on Thursday.
Raseiniai, a district in Kaunas County, has seen the biggest number of new cases, 49, Justina Petravičienė of the NVSC told LRT RADIO.
“Raseiniai remains one of the hotspots. The biggest cluster, where we focus most of our efforts, is the Blinsturbiškiai Social Care Home in Raseiniai District where we detected 34 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours,” she said.
Another major hotspot, Radviliškis Hospital in Šiauliai County, accounts for 16 new cases of Covid-19.
A person in their 80s died from Covid-19, country’s 94th coronavirus fatality, the NPHC said on Friday.
The person, who died in a Kaunas hospital, had underlying health issues, it said.
The patient tested positive for Covid-19 on September 24, supposedly after coming into contact with an infected patient in the hospital.
In all, Lithuania has confirmed 4,956 cases of Covid-19. Of them, 2,378 are active cases and 2,466 people have recovered.
Ninety-four people have died of Covid-19 so far, and another 19 coronavirus-infected patients have died of other causes.
A total of 26,602 people are currently in isolation.
