Forty-four new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Latvia on October 1, one of the highest daily totals so far, but half the number recorded the previous day.
In all 1,868 cases of coronavirus have now been recorded in Latvia.
No additional deaths were registered with the death toll remaining on 37.
However, it should be noted that the number of tests carried out was also the largest since the start of the pandemic with the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) saying 4,699 tests were conducted during the previous 24-hour period, with many tests in Kuldīga and Daugavpils, two cities with significant clusters of cases.
In total 324,717 tests have been carried out since February 29.
So far 1,307 patients have recovered from infection.
19 patients are in hospital, 17 of whom are described as having moderate symptoms of the disease. Two patients are described as having more serious symptoms.
On September 30 the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 12.9 in Latvia, 40.7 in Lithuania and 44.8 in Estonia, according to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control . Latvia’s rate remains the lowest in the European Union.
