In the first quarter of 2018, a total of 407.655 million cigarettes were released for consumption in Latvia, which is 8.217 million cigarettes or 2% less when compared to the same period of 2017, according to information from the State Revenue Service.
In the first three months, a total of 7.83 million cigars and cigarillos were released for consumption in Latvia, which is 29.7% less when compared to the same period of 2017.
The volume of smoking tobacco has increased 14.8% in the past three months – at total of 13,684 kg of smoking tobacco was released for consumption in the aforementioned period.
1.024 billion cigarettes were imported to Latvia in Q1, which is 7.8% less than in 2017. 25.97 million cigars and cigarillos were imported as well, which is 3.9% less when compared to the same period of 2017.
Imports of smoking tobacco in the first three months increased by 11.5% – 15,737 kg was imported to Latvia during that period.
73,790 kg of tobacco leaves were imported to Latvia this year, which is 8.3 times more than last year.
As previously reported, a total of 1.898 billion cigarettes were released for consumption in Latvia in 2017, which is 38.476 million or 2% less than a year prior.
